Read the passage.
Tom opened the weather app on Mom’s phone. He’d been checking the app all week, hoping for rain.
“What’s it looking like, Tom?” called Mom from the kitchen. “Any relief in sight?”
It had been weeks since the town had gotten any rain. The drought had made all the plants shrivel up. The lawn had brown spots of grass that crunched when Tom stepped on them.
As Tom waited for the five-day outlook to load, something at the window caught his eye.
Plop!
He jumped up and ran to the door, pulling it open with glee.
“Mom!” he called as he ran out into the drizzle. “Rain!”
How does Tom feel when he sees the rain?
