Frogs start out as tiny eggs—lots of frog eggs get eaten, so frog mothers lay many eggs! If they survive, tadpoles hatch two weeks later. They have gills to breathe, and soon they begin to swim and eat algae—they grow tiny teeth to munch their food. The tadpoles get larger over time, and at six weeks old, they start to lose their gills and grow feet. By 12 weeks, froglets’ tails disappear. They develop lungs and begin living on land. Twelve to 16 weeks after starting out as an egg, the frog is full-grown!
