We have the shells K,L,M,N. Are the number of shells just 4 or more than 4? If more than 4, what do we call them?

Although magnesium chloride doesn't have any chlorine molecule, why is its formula MgCl2 and not MG2Cl?

I still cannot understand what will happen to the extra proton will it also be given out by sodium and taken in by chlorine.

      No, not really.
If you see the ion formation of elements, then Na is + and Cl is - .
Now this is because of the proton-electron balance. Since Na's atomic no. is 11, it has one extra electron and hence loses one. When Na loses an electron, there are 10 electrons and 11 protons. Protons carry a positive charge, so Na's ionic form is Na+ .
In a similar way, Cl gains one electron and has 18 electrons and 17 protons. Electron has a negative charge and since Cl has more electrons than protons , it is Cl- .
So the protons never exchange each other.
      Hope this helped!

As all Ionic compounds are polar they form salts.
Salts(ionic compounds) are generally crystalline in nature and hence contain water of crystallization.

Why do ionic compounds form crystals when a specific amt. of water is added and not in their anhydrous form?

what are the maximum capacity of m shell and n shell?

why are octets stable and not reactive?

are there more shells like o shells, p shells?

The maximum capacity of the M shell is 18 and that of the N shell is 32.
Octets are stable because that's when the maximum capacity of the orbit is reached, i.e., there can't be more than 8 electrons in that orbit, so the atom becomes stable as it has reached its capacity.
There is an o shell, but I'm not too sure about a p shell
