We use coordinates to describe where something is. In geometry, coordinates say where points are on a grid we call the "coordinate plane".
We first explored the coordinate plane in the 5th grade. But that was only dealing with positive coordinate. Now, however, we know all about negative numbers so why not have negative coordinates as well!

Let's think about shapes as collections of points on the coordinate plane. When you're done with this tutorial, you might be saying, "I have had it with these shapes on this plane!" But you'll be happy you went through it.
