What is a Course Mastery Goal?

A Course Mastery goal is a learning target aimed at achieving proficiency in a Khan Academy course across a school year. This long-term goal encourages consistent progress and a deep understanding of the content.

Here are the steps to create a Course Mastery Goal:

Step 1: Log into your Khan Academy account. Click your name in the top right-hand corner, then select the “Teacher Dashboard” from the dropdown list.
Step 2: Select which class you would like to make a Course Mastery goal for.
Step 3: On the left-hand menu bar, click the “Assign” option, which is located below the “Mastery Goals” section.
Step 4: Select the course for which you want to create a Course Mastery goal.
Please note: If you don’t see the course for which you wish to assign a goal, click the “Edit courses” button at the bottom of the first column to add the course to your class.
Step 5: From the “Select content” section, click the Course Mastery option
Step 6: Select a due date for your Course Mastery goal.
Please note: We recommend setting the due date about 9 months from the date that the goal is created, but please adjust it to what best fits your student’s needs.
Optional next step: Editing which students are receiving the goal. You can edit the students who are receiving the goal by selecting the blue “edit” button in the bottom right corner of the screen.
If you have students who joined your class later in the year or are on a different learning path than their peers, you may need to adjust which students are receiving the goal.
Step 7: Click “Create Course Goal” at the bottom of the screen. Once you click “Create Course Goal”, the Course Mastery goal will be given to any students who are already in your class.
