Girish on content
Video transcript
[Voiceover] Alright so Garesh, what do you do here at Khan Academy? - I lead the Content Team here. That's all the great things that we do to create academic content, work with partners on creating content, and making sure learners are accessing the best stuff that we have. - [Voiceover] And what
are some of the things that you're really proud of that you and the team have done so far this year? - So far this year, we've kept up the pace of producing a ton of content across a bunch of different subjects. So far we've put out
over a thousand articles, videos, and exercises this year. - [Voiceover] And that's what, we're like 5, 6 months into the year. - Yeah, yeah, that's
just up until last month. We're expanding our
coverage into new areas for Khan Academy. We launched Grammar,
which is really awesome. It's getting a great reception from learners across KA. We're doing stuff in US History, and Multivariable Calculus, Engineering. So yeah, lots of great stuff. - [Voiceover] And what are you exited about going forward? - We're ramping up to do a whole bunch of new subjects over the
coming year and a half, expanding into new grades
like middle school, with middle school science, some more things in the humanities, like World History. So we'll be adding a whole bunch of new subjects and most importantly, adding some depth and
breadth to the Content Team. One of the things that
I'm most exited about is that we've sort of
set up Content Managers on the team, which is sorta a new role for Khan Academy. Folks who sort of own
an entire content domain or by a subject, to make sure
that it's really high-quality and that we can share the
knowledge that we've learned about what learners value in these videos and articles to other
parts of the organization, like with product and design. - [Voiceover] And this is a big thing cuz if you back two or three years ago, there wasn't really a Content Team at Khan Academy.
- That's right. - [Voiceover] There was a
bunch of folks making content. I may be one of them. But now who's on the Content Team, how big is it? How is it gonna grow
in the next year or so? - Yeah, so right now
we have about 14 folks. There's myself and Justin, who sorta help oversee all of the work that we're doing and build the roadmaps that we're doing. And we have Cam leading our math work. Ben, Lindsay, and Tomer
who are the math fellows and Grant who is creating
Multivariable Calculus content, Emily who's doing Bio,
Yuki who's doing Chemistry, Kim, who's doing US History, We got Willy on Electrical Engineering. David Santo Pietro on Physics and David Rheinstrom on Grammar. So yeah, it's a big team and we've got also got Caroline, who joined us recently, to be Project Manager. We got Diane, who's doing
Content Growth Analytics. And I'm sure I'm forgetting someone. It's a big team, and the point is that the team here is responsible for a lot of different things, and not just creating content but also ensuring that it's great and that it's great forever. - [Voiceover] You kind of said it offhand, but over 1,000 pieces of content. And I think another big accomplishment is what you just mentioned, that the team has grown its capacity and continues to. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean and so another couple great things that we'll be adding to the team, we've added Norman, who's leading our work on sponsored content so
the Bank of America work that you'll be seeing soon, and our work with Pixar, and then also we'll have
a Content Manager joining to help lead our Test Prep content soon. So all this is sort of
supporting the growth of Khan Academy's experiencing overall across our products
and across our content, but then really just to sort
of lend our content expertise to all the different areas
that we're leading into, including internationally, so we'll have a Content
Manager for India joining soon to sort of lead the
translation, localization, and creation efforts
that'll happen in India. - [Voiceover] Awesome,
well thanks so much. - Thanks.
