Torque on a dipole in electric field (derivation)
Let's derive the expression for the torque acting on a dipole placed in a uniform electric field. We will also explore the stable and unstable equilibrium positions. Created by Mahesh Shenoy.

- Shouldn't the maximum torque happens when positive e deviates a bit from the unstable equilibium?(5 votes)

theta = 0 is stable equilibrium and theta = 180 is unstable equilibrium but why?(0 votes)- You when we tilt the dipole a little bit in 0°it tend to come back at same position but in unstable or 180° if we tilt dipole a little bit it tend to rotate to stable position so it's an unstable equilibrium(3 votes)
