Lesson 26: Comparing fractions with unlike denominators visuallyVisually comparing fractions review
Review comparing fractions with fraction models and number lines, and try some practice problems.
Comparing fractions
We can compare fractions by seeing which one takes up a greater portion of the same whole.
Comparing fractions with fraction models
Let's look at an example.
Compare and with or .
First, let's divide two same-sized wholes into sixths and ninths.
Next. we need to fill in of the sixths to show and of the ninths to show .
The fractions represent the same portion of the whole. So, they are equal.

Comparing fractions with number lines
Let's look at an example.
Compare and with or .
Let's think about where each fraction is located on the number line.

- when it says ," Next we need to fill in 4 of the sixths to show 4/6 and 6 of the ninths show 6/9." am i the only one who doesn't understand that he/she is saying?(14 votes)
- For that your teacher is probably asking you to shade in a model. If she said that she would want you to make a bar diagram or like a circle, you'd have to divide it into the denominater's number and shade in the numerater's number.
Example:
1)Your teacher asks you to fill in...
2)You draw a diagram
3) You divide the diagram into the denominater's number
4)You shade in the numerater's number
5)There is NO step 5, it is that simple(21 votes)
- Can't you just convert it into a equivalent fraction?(2 votes)
- it was realy good and i know much more about fractions in this covid 19 i´ll probably learn more than i actualy learn at school !
but i dont understand how three fourths and four fiths are not equil(1 vote)- One, good job, and I hope you keep on learning!
Two, try to draw 2 pies or get 2 real pies. For three fourths, cut the pie into 4 equal slices, take away one of them, and eat it if the pie is real. For four-fifths, cut the pie into 5 equal segments, and take away one, and potentially eat it. Compare the pies, and you should see that four-fifths is bigger than three fourths. I hope that you can get your mom to buy you some pie!(2 votes)
- I made 4/6 of the Burj khalifa my friend made 1/6 of the Burj khalifa. Who made made more progress(1 vote)
- what does = mean in fractions(0 votes)
- For any numbers, including whole numbers, integers, fractions, decimals, irrational numbers, etc., the = symbol goes between expressions with the same value.

- 100 / 75 what is equal to that let me show you something for example 4/3, because four times 25 equals 100 and three times 25 equals 75(1 vote)
- I have a better way than what they say look at the example. 2/4 is equal to 4/8 because 2 times 2 equals 4 and 4 times 2=8(1 vote)
- do you play fortnite(1 vote)
- Why does it not give you like 10 practice questions to practice. Like you know I personally think that weird.(1 vote)
