- This comment section makes me so sad. Back in school I too liked math when it was simple, then algebra was introduced and I started wondering if I really liked it anymore. However later when I was older I returned to it and learned it online with the help of Khan academy and other Youtube channels like Eddie Woo and 3b1b and many others, I ended up really falling in love with math!
Do I still struggle with it? Yep! But now I don't dislike the struggle, reaching understanding after confusion is its own reward, and earning new skills to tackle other more complex problems feels like gaining a superpower. For some reason school failed to give me this feeling, I never seemed to reach real understanding back then, there was just not enough time.(57 votes) - Wait what if i dont like algebra(6 votes)

- Seeing some of the comments that have been made, I would like to make one of my own. Not to long ago if you were to ask me when did I realize I liked reading, ELA, etc., I would have said "NEVER!" or told you I prefer to repeat a surgery than do it. It would be an honest answer. Math has always been the language I prefer because it's always been easier for me. Algebra is definitely more complex in structure and difficulty, but the same is true for reading, composition, and any other part of ELA as you progress. Just because you intensely don't like something (maybe hate it) doesn't mean people are lying when they say they enjoy it. Just ask my sisters.(4 votes)

(whimsical electronic music) (clicking) - One day, my family
was building this fence around my chicken coop. 'Cause there were problems with raccoons. And we wanted to make sure
that the perimeter of the fence was twice the the length of the width. And I remember thinking, "This is exactly like my algebra class. "I'm actually doing
things that are useful." Algebra wasn't just something
that you do on paper, it was actually protecting
the lives of my chickens. So I felt like that was a moment for me where math is useful to the world, and we're solving real problems with it, and it's really powerful. - So I realized that
I first liked algebra, and just math in general,
my first year in college, I was a little bit of a late bloomer in realizing the importance of math. I was taking an early statistics course for my psychology degree. And I really began to understand how the concepts that I were learning could help me understand
the world around me better in a more concrete, fluid, and rich way. And so being able to make that connection from these things that I'm
learning in the classroom out into the real world, so that I can under understand
different phenomenon, I can understand how various
things in our culture work and progress, really helped me and made me feel like I
had a deeper understanding for the importance of math and algebra. And from that point I've
really been in love.
