Geometry: FAQ
Frequently asked questions about geometry.
What is the difference between identifying and classifying shapes?
When we identify a shape, we say what it is, like a square or a triangle.
When we classify shapes, we group them together based on shared characteristics, like all the shapes with four sides.
What is an angle?
An angle is formed when two lines meet. We can measure angles in degrees.
What are some ways we can analyze shapes?
We can look at things like the number of sides, the lengths of the sides, the angles, and whether the shape has any lines of symmetry.
What does it mean to partition a rectangle?
Partitioning a rectangle means dividing it into smaller, equal parts.
Where do we use geometry in the real world?
Geometry is used in many places! Architects use it to design buildings, engineers use it to create bridges and other structures, and artists use it to create paintings and sculptures.

- What does FAQ stand for?(20 votes)
- FAQ stands for "Frequently Asked Questions".(29 votes)
- Where do we use geometry in the real world?(26 votes)
- Think of the building where you live. Every part of it involves geometry to one degree or another. Geometry is a system that allows us to tell whether there is enough space to fit a chair in a room and many other things like that.(14 votes)
- What is a trapezoid(9 votes)
- Trapezoid is a shape with 4 vertices and 4 sides, where there is at least 1 pair of parallel line.
A pair of parallel line means 2 straight lines that doesn't cross each other even when extended for very long, or they are on top of each other.(7 votes)
- Is there a shape that has 72 angles?(4 votes)
- Yes, a shape with 72 sides exists. This shape would also have 72 angles.

- A trapezoid is a shape with 4 vertices and 4sides. A trapezoid has at least one pair of parallel lines, but what does vertice mean?(2 votes)
- Vertices is a plural of vertex.
A vertex means the points that you use to connect sides.
For example, a square has 4 vertices on its 4 corners.(7 votes)
- What is a parallelogram?(2 votes)
- A parallelogram is a shape with
- 4 sides
- 4 vertices
- 2 pairs of parallel lines
What is a pair parallel lines?
When you draw 2 lines randomly, and try to extend them as long as possible, you may find out they will intersect with each other at some point.
However, no matter how far you extend the pair of parallel lines, they won't intersect with each other.
For example, a square has its upper base and lower base parallel, since no matter how far you extend it, they won't intersect with each other.
However, let's say we have a triangle, any 2 sides intersect at one of their vertex.(4 votes)
