Which colleges are a good fit for me?
While you’re hard at work studying for the SAT, you’re also probably thinking about college. You may have already done some research to see which schools sound like a good fit, or you might be considering a particular field of study that will guide your college choice. Or, like many students, you might not know what you’re looking for yet! Luckily, there are many great resources to help you get started.
- The College Board, creators of the SAT, created the interactive tool Big Future to get you asking yourself questions about what’s important to you for college and career. The site includes advice on the college search process as well as college search features.
- Khan Academy offers a step-by-step College Admissions resource to help you navigate the entire process with a series of articles and videos, including stories from students, faculty, admissions staff, and Sal Khan himself!
- The U.S. Department of Education offers the College Scorecard as a way to find and compare schools. It also offers some great information on paying for college and financial aid.
- College Navigator from the National Center for Education Statistics lets you create and save lists of potential schools.
- If your high school has college or guidance counselors on staff, make sure to visit their office. Counselors can help you on an individual level as they get to know more about your academic record and your interests, allowing them to make personalized recommendations for you.
We wish you the best of luck in your college search!

- is it really possible to get full fee scholarship in us university with an average sat, toefl score ?(5 votes)
- Yes it is possible, but only if the colleges have seen your hard work, determination, and your personality. You can get a scholarship if you have an average SAT score but you volunteer, perform in extracurricular activities, write a very good college admission essay, and if you just are an enjoyable person that will persvere through anything. Most colleges are looking for a worthy candidate, even if their standardized testing scores aren't entirely up to par. Just work hard and try your best!(17 votes)
- How many times can you take the SAT?(3 votes)

- Has anyone taken the SAT? Is it hard? Were you nervous? Should I be nervous? Will I have other opportunities if so how many? What is it for?(3 votes)
- SAT is hard, but if you study well enough for it, you can get high scores (or maybe even a perfect score). No one should be too nervous about it, because it's not some kind of an impossible test that only smart people can get good scores. It's basically a test that helps you get in college, and it doesn't say how smart you are.
You can take the SAT as many times as you can.

- does the practice test schedule align with the time zone I'm in? (I live in India) If not, can you tell me what time zone you work from so I can schedule them accordingly? Thanks(4 votes)
- Good question! I would guess that the practice test schedule aligns with the time zone that you are in (mainly because it will be based on the clock on your computer (I think!), which will be in your time zone). I could be wrong, though.
Hope this helps!(2 votes)
- I already have a college on my mind but being an international student, the university won't give me any scholarships or grants. In cases like this, what can international students do?(4 votes)
- Hi Shrey Desai, I am an international student too. As I know, there are universities that offer us financial aid (need-and merit-based financial aid) . Probably the college that you have on mind does not have these opportunities but there more amazing colleges waiting for you. Explore their websites. I wish you the best =)(1 vote)
- I am trying to send my SAT practicing activity with CollegeBoard and it wont update my status from 1h and 7 minutes. The dead line is today and I do not know what to do.(3 votes)
- How important are extracurricular activities?(3 votes)
- do colleges focus more on if students have a good sat score or do they focus more on students getting advance diplomas and having a high gpa ?(3 votes)
- Generally, colleges seem to care more about your GPA, as it can provide a broader idea of what a student is capable of, and some do not even require the SAT. However, the SAT is still very important, as it provides a baseline on which to compare students from different schools where curriculum may be more or less difficult.(1 vote)
