- Can the sentence be "It reached the peak of my intrest."?(15 votes)
- Yes, I would say that that would be a plausible sentence.(8 votes)
- In the second practice question, why is it "affects" instead of "affect?"(7 votes)
- The person who answered you misread your question. In the second practice question, it is "affects" instead of "affect" because it is referring to "bacteria" which is singular not plural. If it said "bacteria and x" then it would be "affect."(6 votes)
- I understand that memorizing isn't a good option, but what is the difference between affect and effect? I am always mixing them up.(3 votes)
- Affect is when something is influenced. Effect is when something is the result of the influence.(7 votes)
- Whats the difference with effect and affect??(3 votes)
- On the SAT, "affect" will be used as a verb, and "effect" will be used as a noun. They have other definitions, of course, but I haven't ever seen any on the SAT. "Affect" is a verb that means to have an effect on. "Effect" is a noun meaning the result of some cause. The easiest way to distinguish between them is just to look at whether the blank you're looking at needs a verb or a noun. Affect is a verb, and effect is a noun.(7 votes)
- in the second practice, it is said "much of the bacteria", if it is much (more than one), why do we use affects? shouldn't we use affect?(2 votes)
- When used as a noun (as it is here), “much” is singular and therefore takes the singular form of the verb. You would say “much affects”, not “much affect”.(1 vote)
- Why these questions usually involve choosing between two confusing words,(1 vote)
- Because the SAT is trying to test your knowledge of these words and how they are used.(3 votes)
- These questions usually involve choosing between two easily confused words, but there are four different choices for each question. That means that two of the choices must contain errors unrelated to word confusion.
This means that, even if we forget the distinction between two similar words, we can narrow down our choices and improve our chances of selecting the answer.
Top tip: Don't sweat it!(2 votes) - What is the difference between Effect and Affect?(2 votes)
- Is there a video on this?(1 vote)
- Yes! There is a video that teaches you frequently confused words, and a video that gives you an example lesson too!
