- [Rich] Hi, and welcome to our course on biodiversity. My name's Rich Mooi, and I'm curator of invertebrate zoology and geology at the California Academy of Sciences. Exploring, explaining and sustaining biodiversity is at the core of the mission of the California Academy of Sciences, and these tutorials are a wonderful way to share our course with you wherever you are on our planet. You can learn more about the structure and the content of the course by reading the welcome materials and, of course, watching the tutorial videos themselves. We've tried to make each topic stand on its own so that you can visit them in any order that you like. Much like visiting islands in an archipelago. The educational and supplementary materials accompanying the videos are developed to enhance the quality of your visits. We hope you'll enjoy all your expeditions throughout the archipelago.
