About this unit

Carbon can form covalent bond with itself and other elements to form a mind boggling array of structures. In this unit, we will learn about its versatile nature, properties due to which it binds with other elements. We will also learn types of carbon compounds, functional groups, how to name different carbon compounds, the reactions chemists use to synthesize alcohols and carboxylic acids, and preparation and applications of soaps.
