Flipped classroom: students organise their own online learning.
Question: in my experience, the students that need the background information the most, are the less likely to have done their 'homework'. This frustrates projectwork in class, because they miss essential information. Experiencing this, does help with some, but some students don't seem to be able to organise or discipline themselves. And I am referring to adult students here, not ten year olds.
How can I deal effectively with students that show up for the practise work in the classroom, and do not prepare themselves at home?

From experience it is to give them care with responsibility. You have to know what are they doing with their time after school, and teach them how to manage their time since most people only think that learning is only when you are in this big building with many people in big rooms. perspective change. and afterwards you need to give them projects that centers around them, prefferably groups that forces peer involvement in their work.

I just interviewed for a teaching position in a middle school where only about 50% of the students have computers and internet at home. How do you get around this issue of less than 100% internet availability if you want to flip your classroom?

I would look at other options for the "at home" learning. In an earlier video (or possible the questions/answers), an option suggested for the at home was reading material that the student could do to prepare for the class. Another thing I would suggest looking at are other options in the community for internet learning. Many libraries offer internet usage for free for anyone with a library card (also free if you prove you live and/or work in the area served). Community centers or youth group locations might be another option.

Isn't there a concern that they learn it or "teach it" to themselves incorrectly at home which will lead to major misunderstandings in class. Which will be hard to correct if they learn it incorrectly to begin with?

I think that the Flipped Classroom Model would be the most successful with students who take responsibility for their own learning. How do you get your students to operate under that mindset?

The Flipped Classroom model allows every student to learn at their own pace, with the rewind button of online content being used frequently as students navigate digital courses. Combined with the own-place, own-time nature of eLearning, this means students now consume content in a very asynchronous manner.

Hi. Any advice on where I can locate tutors who get Khan Academy? I live in Vegas. My kid's school doesn't even offer algebra. I'm ready to get him committed to learning algebra through Khan, but I really would like the assistance of a "flipped classroom" kind of tutor in our area. So far I've been unable to find anyone. Thank you. Steven Fogarty. info@stevenjoseph.us 702-904-2972
