Solar wind and storms
The Sun is constantly blasting a huge amount of matter and energy into the solar system, creating “space weather” around our planet. Created by NOVA.

- How far is the earth from the sun?(1 vote)
- The distance varies, because Earth orbits the Sun in an ellipse, but the average distance is called one Astronomical Unit, which equals out to 92,955,807 miles or 149,597,870 kilometers.(3 votes)
- Is there any possibilities of life on the sun 1:39(1 vote)
- know there is not it is way to hot for any life. And here are a few ways y.
-There is no clouds for rain.
-It is way to hot to grow anything.
-And I am pretty positive that there is more gravity on the sun than the earth.(2 votes)
- with all that radiation and explosion, wouldn't the near planet like mercury be vaporized?(1 vote)
- if the sun was 2 times bigger, would the solar storms reach earth? i know this is off of topic, but could the sun reach the earth or even Saturn? pls answer because i am really intrigued(1 vote)
- If the sun would be 2 times bigger, everything on earth AND earth itself would simply burn. Therefore no, the solar storms would not reach earth because there would be no earth to reach. As for Saturn, yes, it would most probably reach saturn.(1 vote)
- Does the speed, temperature and density of the solar wind changes along the course of its movements?
If yes, why does it change?(1 vote) - What other types of radiation are given off by the sun besides x-rays and gamma rays?(1 vote)
- Every single one. Microwaves, UV light rays , radio waves, infrared waves, etc.(1 vote)
- What is the "serious storms" she was talking about?(1 vote)
- They are on other planets, storms that could devastate our planet, but because they are on other planets they have almost no effect on ours (no effect all, actually, except the suns storms)(1 vote)
- Are some types of stars more or less prone to solar storms than others?(0 votes)
- there are different kinds of stars such as: red giants white dwarfs and brown dwarfs. so yes(2 votes)
- Isn't Earth always revolving around the Sun. I know the answer to this, but if a solar storm is aimed at Earth, wouldn't the Earth move away from the storm as it revolves around the sun?(1 vote)
- Solar storms that are aimed at Earth are actually aimed at the point Earth will be in its orbit when they get there.(1 vote)
- How can space have "weather" if it's a vacuum?(0 votes)
- it is just an expression. you are right deep space is a vacuum but solar systems have gravity so they are not deep space.(1 vote)
