Review writing decimals as percents and percents as decimals.  Then, try some practice problems.

What does percent mean?

Percent means 'per hundred.' So, we can replace a percent sign with 'per hundred.'
Example:
35%=35 per hundred=3510035\%=35\text{ per hundred}=\dfrac{35}{100}

Writing percents as decimals

To write a percent as a decimal, we divide the percent by 100100.
Example 1
Let's convert 42%42\% to a decimal:
42%=42 per hundred=4210042\%=42\text{ per hundred}=\dfrac{42}{100}
42100=42÷100=0.42\dfrac{42}{100}=42\div100=0.42
42%=0.4242\%=0.42
Example 2
Let's convert 370%370\% to a decimal:
370%=370 per hundred=370100370\%=370\text{ per hundred}=\dfrac{370}{100}
370100=370÷100=3.7\dfrac{370}{100}=370\div100=3.7
370%=3.7370\%=3.7
