Lesson 5: Converting units of time

# Converting units: minutes to hours

Learn how to convert minutes to hours by dividing the minutes by 60. We demonstrate dividing 549 minutes by 60, resulting in 9.15 hours. The video also shows how to express the answer as a mixed number (9 and 3/20). Created by Sal Khan.

• At he has the answer 9 hours at the top, and the remainder is 9 minutes at the bottom. Why didn't he just stop right there and say the answer is "9 hours 9 minutes"?
• Because as explained, 60 cannot evenly go into 549. And if you cannot have a remainder then you write your answer as a decimal.
• When we say 9.15 hours, 0.15 is not 15 minutes right?
Rather it's it's a fraction of an hour as a decimal?
• You are correct! the .15 is actually 9 minutes.

Nine hours and fifteen minutes would actually be written 9.25 hours because the fifteen minutes is a quarter of an hour. (0.25)
• I am still not sure how you convert seconds into minutes.
• divide by 60 because there are 60 seconds in a minute if you are converting minutes to seconds multiply by 60
• were did you even get those 00 from someone help
• 549 is equal to 549.00 (they are the same number). He just added 2 blank decimal places.

• You just need to remember that there are 60 minutes in every hour. Two hours would be 60 minutes x 2 = 120 minutes.

2.5 hours would be 60 minutes x 2.5 = 150 minutes.
• Why won't the videos mark as done in my assignments tab?
• Are you doing course mastery instead of that? I would check
