# Converting units: minutes to hours

There are 60 minutes in 1 hour. To convert from minutes to hours, divide the number of minutes by 60. For example, 120 minutes equals 2 hours because 120/60=2.   Created by Sal Khan.

• At he has the answer 9 hours at the top, and the remainder is 9 minutes at the bottom. Why didn't he just stop right there and say the answer is "9 hours 9 minutes"?
• Because as explained, 60 cannot evenly go into 549. And if you cannot have a remainder then you write your answer as a decimal.
• I am still not sure how you convert seconds into minutes.
• divide by 60 because there are 60 seconds in a minute if you are converting minutes to seconds multiply by 60
• were did you even get those 00 from someone help
• 549 is equal to 549.00 (they are the same number). He just added 2 blank decimal places.
• how do you convert hour to minutes

• I don't understand it in grade four
• At he has the answer 9 hours at the top, and the remainder is 9 minutes at the bottom. Why didn't he just stop right there and say the answer is "9 hours 9 minutes"?
• The question was asking for the answer to be in hours, so the answer was in hours, rather than hours and minutes.
• Does this help me find out what time on my military hour clock is? My little irish brain can't figure it out. Somebody help me.
• A military clock is like 0200 or 1900 right? If so it is just like a normal clock that goes to 2359/. Its just a modern clock without the ":".
• how is 9 hours and 9 minutes equivalent to 9.15
• Well 9 hours and 9 mins is 9.15! because 9 is the hours and the 15 is the mins but just in decemal but its not 15 mins because is there 100 mins in a hour?(BTW don't think that i mean there is 100 mins in a hour its only 60) No! So what is 15%( the % is the .something but without the . ) of 60 mins? 9 mins!

• What would happen if in a problem you try to make the remainder a decimal and you just keep dividing it over and over again like this problem...
12 Divided by 50?
