Squaring numbers

Learn how to square basic numbers and make a connection between squaring and the area of a square.
Let's start by taking a look at an example evaluating 3 squared:
32=3×3=9

Finding 32 (read as "three squared") is the same as finding the area of a square with side length 3:
An area model with 3 equal rows and 3 equal columns. Area equals 3 squared equals 3 times 3 equals 9.
