Converting decimals and percents review

Review writing decimals as percents and percents as decimals.  Then, try some practice problems.  

What does percent mean?

Percent means 'per hundred.' So, we can replace a percent sign with 'per hundred.'
Example:
35%=35 per hundred=35100

Writing percents as decimals

To write a percent as a decimal, we divide the percent by 100.
Example 1
Let's convert 42% to a decimal:
42%=42 per hundred=42100
42100=42 hundredths
42%=0.42
Example 2
Let's convert 370% to a decimal:
370%=370 per hundred=370100
370100=370 hundredths
370%=3.7

Writing decimals as percents

To write a decimal as a percent, we multiply the decimal by 100.
Example 1
Let's convert 0.03 to a percent:
0.03=3100=3 hundredths
0.03=3%
Example 2
Let's convert 5.8 to a percent:
5.8=580100=580 hundredths
5.8=580%
