Lesson 2: Getting started for content creatorsWho or what is Medusa?
Khan Academy's content scaffolding tool.
Medusa
Medusa is the platform we use to create and organize content within a domain, subject, topic, or tutorial. To access Medusa, you need to have content curator access to Khan Academy. Not sure what that is? Ask your primary KA contact!

Scaffolding content
Creating your first tutorial or subject full of content on KA can be quite daunting. Whether you are curating existing content, making new content, or a mixture of both, it's best to scaffold your content to ensure it will be presented in a thoughtful and meaningful manner. We have a maximum of four levels available in our site structure, but you don't have to use every level!
Level names | Example 1 | Example 2 | Example 3 |
---|---|---|---|
Domain | Math | Test prep | Partner content |
Subject | Algebra I | GMAT | |
Topic | Introduction to algebra | ||
Tutorial | Overview and history of algebra | Problem solving | LeBron asks |
At a minimum you will have a domain level and a tutorial level; content is always added at the tutorial level. We don't have requirements for the number of items per level, but recommend around 4 - 6 items. Focus on grouping your content in a logical manner, so users can easily navigate through the different levels.
