Exercise 7: Graphics and color

What colors best represent your land?

Exercise 7: Graphics & Color

Activity 1:
Create a color pallete for your land. To do this choose 3-5 key colors which will be used throughout your land and reflect the theme and atmosphere you hope to create. You can do this physically (paint/pencils) or digitally.
For example, below is a five color pallete for Cars Land. Notice that the colors reflect the environment the story takes place in (such as sky blue, sandy rock and rusty cars).
Question 1:
Below are three images from Pandora. Can you identify which image is an example of: Ghost Graphics (tells you what was there before), Story Graphics (tells you about the land) and Wayfinding (tells you where to go)?

Ghost graphics
Story graphics
Wayfinding

Activity 2: Create one example of each kind of graphic which would appear for your own land: Ghost graphic, Story graphic, and Wayfinding.
  • You can sketch these or use reference images (or a combination of both)
  • You can do this physically or digitally

For my Percy Jackson land, the underworld is going to be a huge HD screen that shows lava, fire, and people. The boat is going to transport surreally on the screen.

i have a story idea that i need an opinion on if you don't mind.

its about a girl and her boyfriend in 1947. the boy breaks up with the girl and they get in a car crash. the boy survives but the girl does not. she vows to get her revenge on the boy's family for all of eternity.

73 years later, the boy's great-granddaughter (name pending) is sick and tired of being scared of some crazy ghost. she decides to put the ghost back where she belongs. how will she do it? will she survive?

ive never written anything before. keep in mind this is just a random idea I had. feel free to critique, ask questions and/or give ideas.

For my land, Salemtown, the palette of colors will be brown, orange, gray, green, and purple.

    - Ghost graphics - Street Name signs, house numbers, town clock.

    - Story graphics - Stores name signage, everything inside the Sanderson Cottage (museum), 'not-so-hidden' registry books owned by the villains counting the number of souls kidnapped, a big banner hanging at main street announcing All Hallows' Eve celebration, warning posters “the witches are back” “keep your children safe”, “Happy Halloween”

    - Wayfinding - big posters announcing the big ball at the House of Villains (showtimes), “trick-o-treat here” signs, and trick-or-treating map.

For my colors I'm thinking faded brown, grey, brown for rust, and red warning signs. Old pipes along the side that give off an occasional burst of steam I feel would make it feel more like you're digging to the center of the Earth with old technology. Most signs will be faded as if they've scraped by miles of rock. And that's just journey to the center of the Earth.
