- What does L.H.O.O.Q mean?(16 votes)
- I think that it's important to know how Marcel Duchamp is profaning and punning so I'll post the meaning. If you say the letters L.H.O.O.Q. in French, the five letters sound out the phrase "Elle a chaud cul," meaning "She has a hot ass." This addition of Duchamp's, along with a mustache, to a postcard of the Mona Lisa undermines and reconfigures the position of a great masterwork in a cheap, reproducible medium.(39 votes)
- Why did artists flee Germany when the Nazis gained power? I thought that Hitler wanted Germany to be a sort of model to the rest of the world.(6 votes)
- Artists left Germany because Hitler has very strong opinions about art. Any art that he didn't like was removed under state order. It was his way or the highway.(16 votes)
- why did they call themselves the dada movement(3 votes)
- It's named after wooden hobby horse (toy). They were searching for name in Franco-German dictionary and that was the first word they saw(13 votes)
- Does this guy do any more videos?(4 votes)
- yes and they are amazing you should watch them(7 votes)
- Normally in these videos there is only one hand. But at, there is a second hand. Who is this hand? Is it the original hand's twin brother or something? 0:20(7 votes)
- The guy usually shows up his right hand only right? So,the other hand is the left hand.(0 votes)
- Hey there! I use Khan Academy when homeschooling my kids, and I was a little peeved at discovering there was no mention of Keith Haring or a nod toward graffiti as an art form. We're greatly interested in its history and how it's used as a form of expression (yes, we're also going to touch on tagging and its illegal aspects, as well.) Anyone know of any other resources besides Haring's website?(3 votes)
- There is a short video devoted entirely to graffiti: https://www.khanacademy.org/partner-content/MoMA/moma-artist-interviews/v/moma-lee-quinones We hope to have more in the future.(4 votes)
- How does the " no coloured "picture become a coloured picture without the guy coloring?(3 votes)
- He stops the video, colors it, then starts it again. He turns the settings on the video to "fading into the next clip" so it LOOKS like it's magically colored, but it isn't.(3 votes)
- When did the "gray scale art" as I call it start? It is when people used black, gray, and white shading instead of bright vivid colors.(3 votes)
- So if the Dadas drew a mustache on Mona Lisa, did art professionals fix it later? Just wondering. Thanks!(2 votes)
- Duchamp drew on a postcard, not the painting.(1 vote)
- I love these videos with Art. He makes it interesting, and it is very informative.(2 votes)
- Thank the Utah education system, which paid for them.(1 vote)
