Graphing coordinates review
Review graphing points on a coordinate plane, and try some practice problems.
Ordered pairs
Ordered pairs are made up of two numbers. The first number is the -coordinate and the second number is the -coordinate: .

Graphing ordered pairs
To graph an ordered pair, we start at the origin. Next, we move right (positive) or left (negative) to the -coordinate. From there, we move up (positive) or down (negative) to the -coordinate.
Example 1:
To graph , we move from the origin , then from there.
Example 2:
To graph , we move from the origin , then from there.

- X goes first. Y goes second. So if it is (3, 8), then you graph 3 on the x axis and 8 on the y axis(30 votes)
- Imagine you are building a house and you want the kitchen to be in the exact middle of the house. That is where the origin is. If you divide your house into four groups than each group(going counterclockwise) is one quadrant. The lines that divide it make up the X-axis and Y-axis. If you are still confused you can always ask me(16 votes)
- What’s x axis what’s the purpose why do we have it what’s the y axis why do we have it do we need it do we want it(17 votes)
- what do you do when there is things in the middle on the coordinate plane?(3 votes)
- if you are talking about the very middle, it is the origin thus meaning it equals 0.(6 votes)
- How does a x-axis and y-xis work?(6 votes)
- Exactly I don’t understand. Like how(5 votes)
- help me im so bad with math(2 votes)
- X goes first. Y goes second. So if it is (3, 8), then you graph 3 on the x axis and 8 on the y axis(11 votes)
- x is first y is second right?(8 votes)
- yes it is problem solved(0 votes)
- will i use this out side of school?(6 votes)
- Yes! The coordinate plane helps us describe algebraic relationships visually and also helps us create and interpret algebraic concepts.(3 votes)
- I just need help doing the Quadrants If i cant get those right i cant really do it right it'll be to hard for me lol.(2 votes)
- Here's an easy way to remember the Quadrants:
Quadrants 2 & 3= Left side
Quadrants 1 & 4= Right side
If the part where Sal says quadrant one always has x and y as positive....blah blah blah, then just plot the x & y first then use the method I wrote above.
Hope this helps!(4 votes)
