- Why are multiplying and dividing negatives the same?(79 votes)
- Multiplying and dividing negatives are the same because there is no difference between those sides of zero except the side of zero. So, when you multiply or divide negatives, you are basically multiplying positives with minus signs behind them. Don't forget that the product of 2 negative numbers is always a positive.(17 votes)
- why do people use . ( dot symbol) instead of x. if x is used common in algebra why did they put x in multiplication?(23 votes)
- X is a simpler way of teaching kids. Little kids might think they’re smarter than they really are and think that it’s a decimal point. As you get older, you realize the difference between this sign and a decimal point. Hope this helped!(24 votes)
- Why does the negative cancel out in neg / neg and neg * neg?(10 votes)
- Because you are adding to it's self making a positive, with integers you always do the inverse operation well let me not say always for certain operations.(5 votes)
- Why do we need letter in math? I know why we need fractions but why letter. Why cant it give us a problem like, The candy cost 10.00 but the sign says 5% off. Why do we need letters for a simple problem?(12 votes)
- They're called "variables".(2 votes)
- Hey guys. Is a positive+Positive+Negative and Negative or Positive?(6 votes)
- Depends. if positive + positive is more than the negative it positive ex. 6+4+-5=5 if positive + positive is less than the negative the answer is negative ex. 5+4+-10=-1.(8 votes)
- Why is it hard to remember is the signs will be negative(0 votes)
- I'm not entirely sure I understand your question, but if you're asking how to remember if an answer to a question will have a negative sign or not, just look at the table at the top of this review again. As a refresher:
positive x positive = always positive
negative x negative = always positive
positive x negative = always negative
negative x positive = always positive
And the same is always true when you're dividing too. Hope this helps.(17 votes)
- what if the first number is one and the negative number is -100(5 votes)
- if it is 1 dived by -100 then you take 1 divide it by onehundred and get -0.001. If you are multiplying 1 times -100 then you take 1 times -100, set this up so that would be -100 because there is still a negitive sign.(7 votes)
- why is negative x negative = positive
i am confusing about it.(6 votes)- if you remove a negative then you have a positive.(3 votes)
- is this algebra(3 votes)
- This is still considered arithmetic. Algebra is when you start using unknown numbers, like letters. But like Lukachew said, it's pre-algebra, so kinda like what you need to understand before understanding algebra.(1 vote)
- Hello everyone. I just got 1550 on May 6th dSAT (800 in Math, 750 in R&W). I watched EVERY video and practiced until I got 100% Mastery in Reading and Writing. My advice is to make use of your blank paper (to take notes) during the exam. I noticed that most of the test-takers in my room did not use their notes, which surprised me a lot. With long questions (required to infer or main ideas), writing notes will reduce the stress for your brain a lot. Do not worry about wasting time because it costs you less time than reading all again if you forget what you read, indeed. If someone needs other advice from me, feel free to reply to this comment. I will come back to check.
For your information, this is my first SAT attempt and English is not my first language. I'm Vietnamese (and a typical Asian who is good at Math)
Edit 1: I use Khan Academy and some other books (Erica, Panda Writing, and Dr. John Chung's SAT Math: 63 Perfect Tips and 16 Complete Tests.)
Edit 2: My tip is to practice more and be extremely careful with easy questions.
Edit 3: I got into my favorite university (CUHK)(5 votes)
