Lesson 4: Computer componentsWhat are the parts of a computer?
At a high level, all computers are made up of a processor (CPU), memory, and input/output devices.
Each computer receives input from a variety of devices, processes that data with the CPU and memory, and sends results to some form of output.
This diagram visualizes that flow:
In the next video from Code.org, a designer and CEO will step through the process of typing input into a computer and rendering the output on the screen.
After the video, we'll review each of the components and practice what we've learned.

- how the bits get converted into sounds, images, movies etc.(9 votes)
- for pictures and videos lets break it down into an individual pixel, the entire color spectrum consists of 3 primary colors, red green and blue, so a certain amount of red green and blue can make any color visible to the naked eye, pixels use numbers to figure out how much of each primary color it needs to display to get the right color, anywhere from 0-255, for example 255 red, 0 green and 0 blue will give you the color red, 255R 255G 255B will give you black, assuming you know how binary numbers work, its simply taking binary numbers(bits) and turning them into numbers for each primary color and then the pixel does what each of those primary color numbers say, apply some very complex wiring and you have a a computer screen like the ones you are using to read this, for sound its a bit more complicated but its the same concept, every single sound has a unique frequency, these frequencies can be graphed using numbers, so heres where the same concept applies, the computer can get those numbers using binary as well, and then it sends an electrical current with the same frequency that the binary code(bits) requested, and the speaker turns that into sound(32 votes)
- how can you get better at making games and other thing in computer class.(2 votes)
- It sounds like you're interested in programming. We have many courses here: https://www.khanacademy.org/computing/computer-programming
There are also lots of other ways to learn coding online, like Codecademy, Scratch, Repl.it, etc. The key to programming is to practice, practice, practice!(14 votes)
- what is the main part of the computer that you need to know?(5 votes)
- Well, one of the most important components in a computer is the CPU. CPU stands for Central Processing Unit. This could be thought of as the main "hub."(6 votes)
- If someone was interested in programming and coding where could I find additional information?(2 votes)
- Khan Academy has a Computer Programming section you can check out. https://www.khanacademy.org/computing/computer-programming
Also, you could visit www.codecademy.com or studio.code.org/courses.(3 votes)

- why are some pictures more pixelized than others?(1 vote)
- All pictures are made up of pixels.
If you can see them that means that you're looking at a picture which as fewer pixels.
The more pixels a picture has the smaller the pixels get (or seem?). So high quality pictures have a lot more pixels over a given area than low quality images and consequently seem smoother, because they're so small you can't see them.(2 votes)
