The 2009 Mental Boot Camp is an
intensive, one-week program focused on accelerating the learning of the some of the San Francisco Peninsula's highest
potential young minds. It is directed at rising 6th-12th graders
who demonstrate the motivation and ability to deepen their understanding of math, science and engineering. Students will
be mentored through programming and modeling projects to better understand natural phenomena and hone their engineering skills.
Although this is not
an SAT-prep course, SAT-type problems will be heavily used and the students will be encouraged to take the SAT
to assess their overall progress. The heavy thinking will be interspersed with physical activity to ensure
the flow of blood to both the body and brain (left and right sides).
How does a student qualify?
In order to qualify for the program, students must register in the form below. By doing so, they will also create
an account on the Khan Academy web application. Progress on the application (as measured by level of modules achieved) is not
required but highly recommended for 6th-8th graders who may have limited exposure to algebra prior to the boot camp.
Qualified applicants will be
notified by the first week of May.
Logistics
The Boot Camp will run from Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm (with 8am-9am dropoff and 5pm-6pm pick-up). Tuition for the program is $480 for the week
(healthy breakfast, lunch and snacks included). 100% scholarships are available for highly qualified students
whose families have a gross annual income below $50k.
The dates and location are to be determined (candidate locations are between Mountain View and Burlingame).
